Attire at Camp
Campers must bring a backpack with a bathing suit, towel, and flip-flops/sandals (in case water play occurs) and rain gear each day. Campers should always dress in comfortable play clothes and sneakers. Heelies (sneakers with wheels) are prohibited, and sandals are discouraged unless otherwise noted for swim-related trips.
Unless a child has a pre-ordered and pre-paid lunch, or is scheduled to go on an off-site camp trip when lunch is included in the trip fees, they must bring an insulated lunch bag or lunch box and beverage with an ice pack if applicable (no glass containers and no Thermos bottles) each day. Because of the number of campers, lunches cannot be refrigerated. The only exception is on trip days when a completely disposable brown paper bag/plastic bag lunch and beverage is mandated unless the venue includes a lunch in their admission price. Morning and afternoon snacks will be provided for all campers, and cold water is always available throughout the site. Due to the complexity of food allergies, campers with food allergies must provide their own daily snacks.
Early Bird Deadline for Registrations
The Early Bird registration deadline is Sunday, May 12, 2019 at 11:59 pm and the week(s) chosen and all options chosen in the Community Pass shopping cart must be paid in full by Sunday, May 12, 2019 at 11:59 pm to retain the tuition discount. Remember, all registrations are completely online. Additional weeks, before and/or after care, lunches, trip reservations, and/or electives cannot be added to a camper's schedule unless his/her present account is paid in full.
Payment of Camp Registrations & Fees
Camp registrations for elective programs, before/after care, lunches, off-site trips, and transportation cannot be accepted by any staff member or director but must be processed through the Recreation Department Office's online registration module at CommunityPass.
The system will allow you to pay with your credit card (MasterCard, VISA, and Discover and a convenience fee of 2.75% will be added to the amount charged). During online registration, you also have the option to pay by check. All check payments must be made by mail to 81 Weldon Road, Lake Hopatcong immediately after registration and within 3 business days, or cash or a check can be brought in person to the office at 81 Weldon Road at Camp Jefferson immediately after registration.
Cell phones, I-pods, hand-held games, Apple watches, and other electronic type devices are prohibited during camp. However, if your child chooses to bring these devices with or without your permission, Camp Jefferson will not be responsible if they are broken, lost or stolen.
To reach the After Care staff after 5:30 pm when camp is in session, call the Community Lodge telephone at 973-663-7998. Please only use this number if you expect to be late in picking up a camper. Otherwise, you can call the Recreation Department office at 973-663-8404 using either option 4 or 5.
Rescheduling a Camper's Program
The rescheduling of already scheduled weeks (whether paid or not), before and after care, electives, busing, lunches, off-site trips, and/or sports clinics will incur a $25 fee per instance per child per week at all times. Additions of any kind are exempt from any penalty fees at any time.
No Refund Policy
Camp Jefferson Summer Day Camp has a "No Refund" policy that affects:
- Camp Weeks and Before and After Care
- Fun Food Lunch Days
- Hot Doggity Dog Thursdays
- Sports Camps
However, unusual medical situations or family emergencies will be considered on an individual basis with proper documentation.
Camp Jefferson requests that every parent/guardian provide a password (8 letters/numbers or less) that must be used when an authorized person picks up the camper at dismissal each day. If the person picking up the child does not know the password, he/she will not be allowed to take the child. In this case, the parent/guardian on file will be called.
Staff members, Camp Directors, or the Recreation Department's office staff will not accept permission slips and payment for off-site trips the morning of any trip as admission fees and bus needs are pre-arranged in advance. This also applies to Hot Doggity Dog Thursday and Fun Food lunch programs.
Authorized Persons for Pick-Up
If a person (other than noted during the online registration process) is going to pick up a camper, a note from the parent/guardian must be sent in with the camper by that morning or faxed to the attention of the Recreation Office at 973-663-8409. For your child's protection, verbal notices are unacceptable. However, the office has the right to request verification of private information to ascertain that the parent/guardian claiming to be on the phone is in fact who they say they are.
Tax ID Number
In claiming childcare expenses on your 2019 income taxes, Jefferson Township's Tax ID is Number 22-600-2010. You have the capability to print out your own camp season statement directly from your Community Pass account.
For your convenience, the Recreation Department office at Camp Jefferson office hours are as follows:
- Normal business hours are Monday through Thursday 9 am to 4:30 pm. Friday 8 am to 3:30 pm.
- During summer camp - usually 8 am to 5:30 pm each weekday
To report a camper's absenteeism on any registered day, please call the Nurse's office directly at 201-230-2101 and if no answer at the time you call, please leave a detailed voice message with the child's name, the child's camp group number and the reason for the absence. Remember, camp's open rain or shine!
Sign In/Sign Out Policy

Restraining Orders/Court Orders
The Camp respects all restraining orders and court orders prohibiting any adult's contact with a camper and requires that if one or both are in effect, the parent/guardian of the camper provide a current copy for the Camp's records and the child's protection.
Lost & Found
Please label all campers' belongings including lunch bags as Camp Jefferson is not responsible for damaged, lost or stolen items. Lost and found items must be claimed before September 20, 2019 or they will be donated to charity.
