Camp Procedures
Attire at Camp
Campers must bring a backpack with a bathing suit, towel, and flip-flops/sandals (in case water play occurs) and rain gear each day. Campers should always dress in comfortable play clothes and sneakers. Heelies (sneakers with wheels) are prohibited, and sandals are discouraged unless otherwise noted for swim-related trips.
Lunches
They must bring an insulated lunch bag or lunch box and beverage with an ice pack if applicable (no glass containers and no Thermos bottles) each day. Because of the number of campers, lunches cannot be refrigerated.
Snacks
Canteen snacks and drinks will be available for purchase, using a coupon book only, during lunch time.
Payment of Camp Registrations & Fees
Payments must be processed through the Recreation Department Office’s online registration module at CommunityPass.
The system will allow you to pay with your credit card (MasterCard, VISA, and Discover and a convenience fee of 2.75% will be added to the amount charged). During online registration, you also have the option to pay by check. All check payments must be made by mail to 81 Weldon Road, Lake Hopatcong immediately after registration and within 3 business days, or cash or a check can be brought in person to the office at 81 Weldon Road at Camp Jefferson immediately after registration.
Electronic Devices
Cell phones, I-pods, hand-held games, Apple watches, and other electronic type devices are prohibited during camp. However, if your child chooses to bring these devices with or without your permission, Camp Jefferson will not be responsible if they are broken, lost or stolen.
No Refund Policy
Camp Jefferson Summer Day Camp has a "No Refund" policy that affects:
Passwords
Camp Jefferson requests that every parent/guardian provide a password (8 letters/numbers or less) that must be used when an authorized person picks up the camper at dismissal each day. If the person picking up the child does not know the password, he/she will not be allowed to take the child. In this case, the parent/guardian on file will be called.
Authorized Persons for Pick-Up
If a person (other than noted during the online registration process) is going to pick up a camper, a note from the parent/guardian must be sent in with the camper by that morning or faxed to the attention of the Recreation Office at 973-663-8409. For your child’s protection, verbal notices are unacceptable. However, the office has the right to request verification of private information to ascertain that the parent/guardian claiming to be on the phone is in fact who they say they are.
Tax ID Number
In claiming childcare expenses on your 2020 income taxes, Jefferson Township’s Tax ID is Number 22-600-2010. You have the capability to print out your own camp season statement directly from your Community Pass account.
Office
For your convenience, the Recreation office at Camp Jefferson office hours are as follows:
- Normal business hours are Monday through Thursday 9 am to 4:30 pm. Friday 8 am to 3:30 pm.
- During summer camp - usually 8 am to 4:30 pm each weekday
Absenteeism
To report a camper’s absenteeism on any registered day, please call the Recreation Office at 973-663-8404.
Sign In/Sign Out Policy

Restraining Orders/Court Orders
The Camp respects all restraining orders and court orders prohibiting any adult’s contact with a camper and requires that if one or both are in effect, the parent/guardian of the camper provide a current copy for the Camp’s records and the child’s protection.
Lost & Found
Please label all campers’ belongings including lunch bags as Camp Jefferson is not responsible for damaged, lost or stolen items. Lost and found items must be claimed before the end of September or they will be donated to charity.
