In September of 1999, the Jefferson Township Police Department implemented a School Resource Officer Program in cooperation with the Jefferson Township Public Schools.
The department applied for and received a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Policing, to help fund the program.
About the Program
The program provides an emphasis on the High School and Middle School, but also includes all five elementary schools, which are White Rock School, Milton School, Cozy Lake School on the Milton side of town, and Stanlick School and ET. Briggs School on the Lake Hopatcong side of town.
Some of the duties include student and parent assistance, provide and assist with school security, and serve as an instructor for specialized programs covering a wide range of topics such as:
- Bike safety
